Students will calculate the areas of 8 Christmas trees by using the area formula for triangles and rectangles. Measurements include whole numbers and decimals. After calculating the area of each Christmas tree, students will need to figure out which Christmas tree will be purchased based off of 3 requirements: (1) height of tree, (2) area between a certain number, and (3) budget. Students will determine how much the tree cost given that each square foot costs $1.50. They will need to determine their change after purchasing the Christmas tree. This is a great activity individually or in pairs. Students should be able to complete this activity in 1 class day.
