Identifying Types of Transformations Halloween Activity

One of my favorite math topics to teach is Transformations. Since I love Transformations so much, I have created a lot of Transformation activities. This Halloween activity is one of my newest Transformations activities.

Students will be determining the type of transformation that was performed on each Halloween image. Students will color each set of spiders, ghosts, and bats according to the color key code. There are 3 worksheets: (1) Spiders - Easiest, (2) Ghosts - Medium, and (3) Bats - Hardest. The spider worksheet includes reflections over the x- and y-axis, 90 and 180 degree rotations, and translations. The ghost worksheet replaces translations with reflections over horizontal and vertical lines. The bat worksheet replaces translations with reflections over the lines y = x and y = -x.

Another reason why I love transformations is because I get to provide my students with more hands-on activities. After I have gone over the basics of reflections, rotations, and translations, my students learn how to perform the transformations using patty paper. This Halloween activity is great because students can use patty paper to check their answers!
