Whether your students are learning about the coordinate plane or reviewing, this resource is amazing! The coordinate plane is introduced in 4th-5th grade and used throughout middle school and high school. I LOVE this puzzle activity because my students are able to review ordered pairs and see a "pattern" with the points.
Students will cut and glue the puzzle pieces by matching the coordinates to the labeled points.
The nice thing about this activity is that it is also somewhat self-assessing. Each puzzle piece should have the text upright. This means that you have 5 puzzle pieces for the top and bottom, and 4 puzzle pieces for the sides. My students knew that they made a mistake when they glued a puzzle piece that had text written sideways or upside down.
I also have my students color code the quadrants and ordered pairs that fall in that quadrant! I love doing this because it shows the "pattern" with the points.
Every point that falls in the yellow region is in Quadrant I. My students noticed after coloring these points that the ordered pairs contained both a positive x-coordinate and a positive y-coordinate.
There are many options with this activity. You can have students glue the activity into their math interactive notebooks or they can use it as a handheld study tool.
Did I mention that this activity is also DIGITAL?! If you purchase my activity, you get both the paper and digital file.
You will be provided with a Google Slides link. Students will drag and drop puzzle pieces according to the ordered pair.
Students will also color code the ordered pairs by dragging colored puzzle pieces over the ordered pairs.
