8th Grade Math Interactive Notebook

Ok so this post is going to be very similar to the one that I just posted.  This is because my 7th and 8th grade interactive notebook are similar but cover different standards.  So, here we go!

I am SO excited to show you my 8th grade math interactive notebook.  I created this notebook a little over a year ago and have been adding material since then.  It is set up to the Common Core State Standards (8.NS, 8.EE, 8.F, 8.G, and 8.SP).  There is so much to this notebook.  You can have students use a standard size notebook, composition notebook, or a 3-ring binder.  I decided to try the 3-ring binder with my students and I got to say that it worked out a lot nicer than an actual notebook.  I had students write their name and period on a thin sheet of paper, and I placed this paper on the side of the binder.

This made it extremely easy for my students to leave their notebooks in my bookcase and find it quickly whenever needed.  However, it is up to you how you want students to construct the interactive notebook.

I have provided a cover page and intro pages (expectations, grading, cheat sheet, table of contents, and etc.).  The pictures below show my 7th grade cheat sheet and table of contents.

I have also provided a page where students will set goals and a page where students will write if they accomplished those goals.  At my school, we discuss how important it is for students to learn how to set goals.  Hence, I like to use this page multiple times throughout the year.  The page is set up so that you can have students set goals each quarter.

You will notice that I have included a "reflection" page.  I love to use this reflection page on the left side of the notebook.  I use the right side of the notebook as a direct instruction / activity.  I just make copies of the reflection page anytime that I want students to reflect upon what they learned.

This notebook is great because it has a lot of cut and paste activities.  Students will need scissors and glue to complete the activities.  You can decide if you want students to color the activities.  In addition, you will notice that I include the standard on the top of each page.  I also include a "I can..." statement.  Students will write in the "I can..." statements.  You will be provided with the answer key that includes all of the "I can..." statements.

The end of each standard will have a vocabulary matching activity.  This includes a cell phone template.  I use this activity before I give my students their vocabulary quiz so that they can use it as a study tool.

  1. Hi. I am so looking forward to trying and using MIN (Math Interactive Notebooks). What I've seen thus far on your blog looks great. I was wondering if your interactive notebooks, 8th grade and Algebra, are editable? Also are their overlapping pages in the sets as far as the unit materials?

    Thanks,
    Tracey

  2. Hi Tracey! Unfortunately my interactive notebooks aren't editable. However, if there is ever something in my notebooks that you would like me to change, I can always edit them. There are no overlapping pages between the 8th grade notebook and the Algebra notebook. However, some of the concepts are the same but they do not have the same pages. Let me know if you're interested and I can send you a preview of the 8th grade notebook vs the Algebra notebook. Thanks so much for your interest in my curriculum and please let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    1. Hi! I actually only use Microsoft Word. Everyone is always surprised when I tell them that it is Microsoft Word because they don't know how much Word can do! :) Thanks so much for your kind words!
